THE WRONG BUS

He was simply traveling for a celebration.

Excited to attend his friend’s naming ceremony for a newborn child, he boarded a bus without knowing that the journey ahead would steal almost a decade of his life.

Somewhere along the road, they approached a police checkpoint.

Suddenly, the driver panicked and ran.

Other passengers began running too.

Confused and unaware of what was happening, he stayed back. He had done nothing wrong, so he saw no reason to run.

Then the bus was searched.

Guns were found inside.

Within moments, his life changed forever.

He was arrested and charged with armed robbery, a crime he knew absolutely nothing about.

No one listened to his explanation.
No one cared that he was only a passenger.
No one cared that he stayed because he believed innocence had nothing to fear.

That innocence cost him nine years.

Nine years behind bars for being in the wrong place at the wrong time.

Nine birthdays missed.
Nine years away from family.
Nine years of waking up every day hoping somebody would finally believe him.

When we encountered his case, we knew justice had delayed for far too long.

We stepped in legally, fought relentlessly for his freedom, and after years of painful incarceration, he was finally released.

The day he walked free, it wasn’t just a man leaving prison.

It was nine stolen years finally coming to an end.
