At Anchor Heritage Initiative, we believe that every woman deserves access to safe menstrual hygiene products, regardless of her circumstances. The Pad an Inmate Initiative was created to restore dignity, promoting health, and ensuring that no woman in custody is left behind. Launched in 2025 at the Female Wing of the Agodi Custodial Centre, the initiative marked a significant milestone in our commitment to the welfare and well-being of incarcerated women. During the launch, every female inmate received a specially branded Pad an Inmate Initiative T-shirt along with a three-month supply of sanitary pads, ensuring that they could manage their menstrual health with dignity and confidence. Unlike many intervention programmes that provide one-time support, the Pad an Inmate Initiative was intentionally designed as a sustainable programme. Every three months, beneficiaries receive another three-month supply of sanitary pads, ensuring continuous access to essential menstrual hygiene products throughout the year.
Since its launch, the initiative has successfully completed its third edition at the Agodi Custodial Centre, reaffirming our commitment to consistency rather than temporary relief. By providing regular menstrual hygiene support, we are helping improve health outcomes, boost self-esteem, and create a more humane correctional environment for female inmates.
Our vision extends far beyond Agodi. As the programme continues to grow, Anchor Heritage Initiative is committed to expanding the Pad an Inmate Initiative to female custodial centers across Nigeria, ensuring that more incarcerated women have access to the dignity, care, and support they deserve.
Because rehabilitation is not only about preparing people for life after release, it is also about protecting their dignity while they are still in custody.
